Arthur Meyer Appreciation Hour

This post is going to take a little explaining. My favorite person on earth is Arthur Meyer, who works at my local bookstore and is this pink-cheeked secret treasure of a person. I don't know exactly what it is about him, but whenever I see him Im in stitches--once he was recommending books on the basis of how fun they are to shelve, once he was persuading me that the best book in all of the store was "Theres a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom" and another time he was recounting the indignity of dressing up as Magic Johnson for Halloween and being mistaken for a black cancer patient. Anyway, how can you not love a kid like Arthur? Also--hello! he's called Arthur Meyer.

So I felt like I had this secret insight into Arthur, like I was able to see the hilarity where everyone else just saw this random bookstore guy. Im so into him that whenever Im writing scenes with Louis Ibbits (Claire's mop-topped oldest friend) I try to channel him. Anyway, I felt like he was my discovery. Mine mine mine. But then get this: I was just in my local coffee shop, trying to go over my draft before I pull the trigger and send it to my editor, and who should I see but Arthur and a posse of ONION WRITERS. They were all meeting about headlines they'd written. And Arthur had a laptop out. Thats right. ARTHUR WRITES FOR THE ONION. He's not my secret funny discovery: he's OFFICIALLY one of the 15 funniest kids in America. I'm not quite sure why this bums me out, but it does. I'm guess I'm bad at sharing.

Speaking of sharing, Arthur, if you're reading this, will you send in some of your Onion headlines? They were so good. Especially that film critic one. Or that thing about Mozart from your "observations" folder. That was actually the most hilarious thing ever (readers, sit tight)
